Volunteer Applications

Volunteer at Deaf Festival Sydney

Deaf Festival Sydney can’t run without our amazing volunteers, and we’d love you to be part of it! Roles include festival support, communication support, and more. Let us know your interests and we’ll do our best to match you up!

Volunteer Roles

Help bring the festival to life before attendees arrive and assist with pack down at the end of the day. Tasks may include setting up signage, setting up DFS Info Stall, assisting stallholders on arrival and locating parking and their allocated sites, and helping pack equipment away after the festival.

Provide communication support across the festival by assisting stallholders, food vendors and attendees where needed. Volunteers in this role will help facilitate communication between Deaf and hearing participants and provide general support throughout the event. A minimum of Certificate IV in Auslan (or equivalent skills and experience) is recommended for this role. Volunteers in this role may also be invited to conduct short attendee surveys throughout the day to help gather feedback about the festival. Survey volunteers will be provided with an iPad and a set of questions, and participation by attendees will be entirely voluntary.

Be a friendly and welcoming point of contact for festival attendees. Volunteers will answer questions, provide directions, distribute festival information and sunscreen, assist with lost property enquiries, support sponsor activations and prize giveaways, and help attendees make the most of their festival experience.

Support the smooth running of the festival by assisting wherever help is needed. Duties may include maintaining the cleanliness of festival spaces, replacing bins, wiping tables, supporting activity and games areas, monitoring shared spaces, restocking supplies, and helping event staff with various tasks throughout the day.

Welcome attendees as they arrive and help create a positive first impression of the festival. Volunteers will scan tickets using an iPad, assist attendees with ticketing enquiries, help visitors access or purchase tickets if required, provide basic event information, monitor entry points, and help manage queues during busy periods.
